Frequently Asked Questions

Whether you’re a patient looking to purchase orthotics or a physician referring for them, you likely have a lot of questions about what that entails.

Can custom orthotics be made for children?

Yes. In fact, early orthotics intervention can help prevent further negative deviation of muscles and ligaments. When children receive custom orthotics at an early age, their muscles, ligaments, and joints can be manipulated in a medically beneficial way.

What if my orthotic device doesn’t fit?

It is essential that your custom orthotics fit properly to provide maximum comfort. If we deem your footwear insufficient to fix your issue, you may need to buy more appropriate footwear.

Do I have to come into the office?

If you are in New York City, Long Island, and Queens, we recommend that you do come into the office. This is because we can do a gait analysis to assess how you walk and determine what you need. We can also fit the device and make the necessary adjustments in person. However, if you live outside of the direct service area, we do our best to accommodate your needs. Please call for further information.

I am a physician looking to refer a patient for medical foot orthotics. How much do I need to be involved?

Your involvement in the process is entirely dependent on your personal preference. If you choose, JR Orthotics can take complete control and work directly with the patient. We get to the root of the discomfort, analyze the patient’s needs, cast them, craft the orthotics, and make any adjustments. Many doctors prefer this approach.

Others prefer to do their own casting and be involved with the consultation. If you choose this approach and are located in our service area, we provide pickup and delivery for the cast box and orthotic devices.

Do you make all types of orthotics?

We do not make AFO (ankle foot orthotic) or SMO (supra-malleolar Orthotic).

Will my insurance cover my orthotics?

We don’t accept insurance, but we can provide an itemized receipt. This can be accompanied by your doctor’s prescription and letter of medical necessity, which you can submit to your insurance company for reimbursement. Most insurance companies still do not reimburse medical orthotics, but we do our best to help.

Will you come to my house to provide service?

Yes, for an additional fee.
